Media Literate

What does the term 'media literate' mean to you? At first I didn't have a clue what this phrase meant so I had to delve into further research on what it was.
This is what I found:
"Media Literacy is the ability to analyse, evaluate, and create media. Media literate youth and adults are better able to understand the complex messages we receive from television, radio, internet, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, video games, music, and all other forms of media".

I think that over the duration of the course I have become increasingly media literate as I am able to analyse messages that are portrayed in the media and use the terminology more frequently. This has been useful and I intend to continue with media literacy.

I think that this image would be a good symbol of a typical media consumer who is not media literate and whom is unaware of the power of the mass media. It connotes that the media is spoon-feeding people as if they are babies and a further connotation would be that the media imprints people as if they were parents to young.

This image demonstrates the dominance of media in modern society. This changes in the mind of a media literate; they can step back and analyse where they are being controlled and sucked in. This image has a display of words considered in the media on a daily basis and is a good example of what to remember when thinking about the media and the literacy around it.
